Biography

Born in 1980 in Toronto, Canada, I am an Astrophysicist completing my Master's degree on the NASA / Stanford space mission, Gravity Probe B (GP-B). GP-B is a mission which is experimentally testing Einstein's theory of General Relativity and exploring how massive rotating bodies such as Earth warp and twist spacetime. Basically since birth, I have been consumed by all things esoteric, fantastical and scientific. My artwork serves as a release from the purely scientific and travels into the realm of metaphysics, spirituality and the aesthetic. It also reflects my great interest and love of 18th century society and the creative beauty and grandiose opulence of the Rococo period (c.1720 - 1790.) Greatly inspired by the talent and creativity displayed by artists belonging to communities such as deviantART, I set down my traditional tools of pen and paintbrush to try out the digital canvas for myself, purchasing Photoshop and Poser in 2003. I have been addicted to creating digital art ever since and never cease to be amazed by the endless possibilities the computer offers the artist. Having worked with computers for most of my life as a computer scientist and physicist (my first taste of graphics was programming in OpenGL,) being able to use them to express the artistic aspects of my personality has been rewarding beyond belief. A huge thank you goes out to the digital art community on the web who have opened my eyes to the limitless possibilities offered through this continually developing medium. In the future, I plan to master other 3D programs such as Lightwave, Bryce, Vue and Cinema 4D to create animations and use tablets to experience more of a "hands on" painting experience. In the meantime, I continue to integrate the scientific and artistic, combining my digital art with my scientific projects as much as possible, providing 3D illustrations of both astrophysical and fantastical scenes.
